Mr. Liu Yunshan visits Confucius Institute at E?tv?s Lor¨¢nd University, Hungary

Mr. Liu Yunshan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, paid a visit to the Confucius Institute at E?tv?s Lor¨¢nd University (ELTE, for its Hungarian acronym) in Hungary on October 5th.

Liu observed classroom teaching for Chinese language teaching majors at the ELTE and visited the photo exhibition of Hungarian Confucius Institutes in company with Ms. M¨¢rta M¨¢trai, First Officer of the Hungarian National Assembly; Mr. Ijj¨¢rt¨®, State Secretary of Hungary; Mr. Barna Mezey, Rector of the ELTE and Madam Xu Lin, Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Director General of Hanban. Hungarian and Chinese folk songs Carnival Celebration and Jasmine Flower performed by teachers and students of the ELTE as well as the Chinese speech ¡°China---My Second Homeland¡± given by the student from the Confucius Institute at the ELTE with Gao Ailin as the Chinese name won waves of applause from the audience. Rector of the ELTE Barna Mezey, First Officer of the Hungarian National Assembly M¨¢rta M¨¢trai and State Secretary of Hungary Ijj¨¢rt¨® delivered their speeches, respectively, extending warm welcome to Liu Yunshan for his visit to Hungary and the ELTE and hailing the contributions made by the Confucius Institute to the friendship between Hungary and China.

While addressing the event, Liu noted that as the carrier of culture, language serves as a crucial tool of people-to-people exchanges. Acquiring a new language holds another key to making friends widely. Confucius Institutes are launched in an effort to establish a bridge of friendship for facilitating cooperation between China and other countries. Liu also expressed that they took great delight in witnessing the fruitful achievements of the Confucius Institute at the ELTE since its establishment. It has become an envoy for cultural exchanges and a symbol of friendship between China and Hungary, playing an important role in cementing the basis of public support of the two peoples and winning wide acclaim from them.

Accompanied by Mr. Ijj¨¢rt¨®, State Secretary of Hungary; Mr. Barna Mezey, Rector of the ELTE and Madam Xu Lin, Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Director General of Hanban, Mr. Liu Yunshan inaugurated the ¡°Belt and Road¡± Research Center of the ELTE.
