On May 20th local time, Ji Bingxuan, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People¡¯s Congress visited the Confucius Institute at University of Lom¨¦ in Togo. Octave Nicoue Broohm, Minister of Higher Education and Research of Togo, Dodzi Komla Kokoroko, President of the University of Lom¨¦, Liu Yuxi, Chinese Ambassador to Togo, Yang Xiaolan, Cultural Counsellor in Togo and others accompanied him during visit. Over 400 people, including teachers and students of the institute as well as local people attended the activity.

Ji Bingxuan watched the performance presented by the Confucius Institute. Zhang Kai, a student of the institute, chaired the show. With the opening words "Isn't it a delight should friends visit from afar¡±, he explained the ¡°Belt and Road¡± initiative to the audience. His fluent and idiomatic Chinese won high praises from the guests. Students also performed the wonderful peacock dance and recited the Changsha Tune: ¡°Spring in a Pleasure Garden¡±.

After the show, Ji Bingxuan visited the digital computer laboratory of the institute and learned about multimedia instruction.

In the library, when Ji Bingxuan saw the series books of Lao Zi, he asked whether the students could understand this ancient masterpiece or not. Huang Ping, a teacher of the institute, said that as teachers would introduce the cultural knowledge behind the thoughts of Lao Zi, Zhuang Zi, Confucius and Mencius in the teaching and the books are Chinese-French bilingual, students are able to understand them.

Ji Bingxuan and others also visited classrooms of the institute, where they repeatedly sang praises of the welcome words and the drawings of national flags of China and Togo on the blackboard. When seeing the students practicing calligraphy, he wrote an inscription for the Confucius Institute with a writing brush.

Ji Bingxuan spoke highly of the teaching results of the institute through suiting its measures to local conditions and teaching students in accordance with their aptitude. Minister of Higher Education and Research and President of University of Lom¨¦ both expressed their full support to the development of the institute so that it could further play the bridging role in connecting Chinese and Togolese culture. The delegation also presented school and office supplies including large-screen televisions, intelligent printers, footballs, and Chinese Knots to the institute.
